Written statement made by Lord Astor of Hever (Conservative) on Monday, 23 May 2011 in the House of Lords, on behalf of the Ministry of Defence.
Correction to Lords Written Answer
I regret to inform the House that an error has been identified in the Written Answer given to the noble Lord, Lord Ashcroft, and printed in the Official Report for 23 March 2011 (col. WA 170). The full answer given was as follows: "Lord Ashcroft: To ask Her Majesty's Government whether a serving British prison officer in Afghanistan is entitled to a campaign medal.[HL75691""The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Defence (Lord Astor of Hever): Yes. To be eligible, personnel must have served at least 45 days’ service in total under the command of the UK Joint Task Force commander on a designated operation within the qualifying area." The correct answer should have been: Yes. To be eligible, personnel must have served at least 30 days’ continuous or 45 days’ aggregated service in total under the command of the UK Joint Task Force commander on a designated operation within the qualifying area. I apologise for any misunderstanding this may have caused.
