Terrorism

My right honourable friend the Secretary of State for the Home Department (Theresa May) has today made the following Written Ministerial Statement. In accordance with Section 14(3), 14(4) and 14(5) of the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005, Lord Carlile of Berriew QC prepared a report on the operation of the Act in 2010, which I laid before the House on 3 February 2011. I am grateful to Lord Carlile for this, his final report as Independent Reviewer of CT legislation, and more broadly for the valuable contribution that he has made to this important area of work. Following consultation within my department and with other relevant agencies, I am today laying before the House my response to Lord Carlile’s recommendations. I am also laying before the House my response to the report on the renewal of the control order legislation by the Joint Committee on Human Rights (published on 1 March 2011). Copies of the Government responses will be available in the Vote Office and a copy of each will also be placed on the Home Office website.
