MPs standing down at the next general election

This spreadsheet [download full report above] lists MPs who have announced their intention to stand down from the House of Commons at the next general election.

When will the next election be?

The current Parliament met for the first time on Tuesday 9 July 2024 as required by the proclamation dissolving the previous Parliament. It means if no early election is called, Parliament will be automatically dissolved on 9 July 2029.

The last possible day for a general election would therefore be Wednesday 15 August 2029 – there are two bank holidays within that period that affect the timetable (12 July in Northern Ireland and 6 August in Scotland).

The Prime Minister of the day can request an early dissolution. There are no statutory restrictions on when the Prime Minister can request a dissolution and by convention the King will grant the request.
