Inflation international comparisons: Economic indicators

Economic indicators are quick-read summaries of the latest data focusing on different aspects of the UK economy. The full suite of indicators can be found on the mainĀ Economic Indicators page.

Inflation in different countries can be compared using the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) or the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) as it is known in the UK.

UK inflation was 2.6% in the year to June, down from 2.8% in the year to May. UK inflation was 3.6% in the year to June 2025.

EU inflation was 2.9% in the year to June, down from 3.3% in the year to May. In the year to June 2025, EU inflation was 2.3%.

Inflation in the Eurozone (the EU member states that use the euro as their currency) was 2.8% in the year to June, down from 3.2% in the year to May. Eurozone inflation is expected to be 2.9% in July, according to a flash estimate from Eurostat.

In Germany, inflation was 2.4% in the year to June, down from 2.7% in the year to May.

In France, inflation was 2.0% in the year to June, down from 2.8% in the year to May.

Romania had the highest inflation rate in the EU in the year to May (9.2%). Sweden had the lowest inflation rate (1.0%).
