Antarctica

Thirty years ago, the Antarctic Treaty shelved territorial claims and created a ‘Continent for Science’, allowing scientific research and conservation to progress together. Recently however, differences have arisen over a Convention to control mining and its relationship to new measures to improve protection of the Antarctic environment. These matters will be discussed at a special meeting in Santiago from Nov 19 to Dec 6 1990.
