Food: Waste

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, pursuant to the Answer of 3 November 2015 to Question 14012, what estimate her Department has made of the amount spent on the Waste and Resources Action Programme in each year since that programme's inception; and if she will make a statement.

Answer

WRAP receives funds from Defra, the Devolved Administrations, the European Union and businesses and from international work.

WRAP was established in 2000 with £6m of funding from Defra. The table below shows Defra’s funding for WRAP since 2000-01:

The reductions in Defra funding since 2010 reflect the need to tackle the deficit alongside a growing awareness from businesses of the opportunities to realise commercial benefits from improved resource efficiency.

WRAP continues to deliver an ambitious programme highly regarded by the business community, Local Authorities, NGOs and others.
