Written question asked by Jon Trickett (Labour) on Tuesday, 14 March 2017, in the House of Commons. It was due for an answer on Thursday, 16 March 2017. It was answered by Alan Duncan (Conservative) on Tuesday, 21 March 2017 on behalf of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Foreign and Commonwealth Office: Procurement

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, pursuant to the Answer of 2 March 2017 to Question 64998, if he will estimate the proportion of contracts awarded to external providers that are defined as major departmental contracts.

Answer

The FCO awarded 20 major contracts over the last 3 year period. Major contracts are defined as those with a whole life cost over £15m. The FCO does not centrally hold data about all contracts and to provide this information would incur disproportionate cost.
