To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, how much has been paid in compensation from the public purse to prison staff as a result of injuries suffered in a violent attack on the prison estate in the last year.
- Answer

£450,000 was paid in damages to prison staff in 2016/17 who had brought personal injury claims following alleged assaults.
