Chevening

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, how much has been spent on Chevening (a) in total and (b) trustees in each of the last 10 years.

Answer

Chevening House is not funded by the Government and is the responsibility of its trustees. The Prime Minister decides who occupies the building. It is currently shared by the Foreign Secretary, the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union and the Secretary of State for International Trade.

The following amounts have been spent by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) on Chevening House:

- £25,600 per annum for the last twelve financial years to maintain security systems, including closed circuit television and emergency lighting;

- In the financial year 2016/17, the FCO paid £80,000 for security enhancements.
