Water Supply: Asbestos
- Question
-
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, if he will direct (a) the Drinking Water Inspectorate and (b) Ofwat to monitor levels of asbestos in water; and if he will make a statement.
- Answer
-
Water companies are required to risk assess their supplies from source to tap and rectify any issues if there is a risk to human health. The World Health Organization have assessed that there is no consistent evidence of impact on human health from ingesting asbestos through drinking water, therefore levels of asbestos in water are not monitored.
