Buildings: Insulation

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, if he will make an assessment of the adequacy of the £5 million of funding that his Department has allocated to local authorities to undertake identification of the cladding used on buildings in their areas.

Answer: Local authorities have been asked to undertake a data collection exercise on residential buildings 18 metres and over in height to identify their external wall systems. In recognition of the extra work required, £4 million of New Burdens funding was allocated to local authorities in November 2019. Its allocation reflected the distribution of high rise residential buildings across local authorities. The Department is in regular contact with both local authorities and housing associations to support them as they carry out the data collection.
