Immigration: Veterans

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, with reference to the Written Statement of 23 February 2022, HCWS624 on Outcome of Public Consultation on Settlement Fees for Non-UK Service Personnel, whether non-UK veterans living outside the UK with (a) spent and (b) unspent convictions will qualify under the new policy.

Answer

The new policy announced following the public consultation on settlement fees for non-UK service personnel implemented a fee waiver for certain non-UK veterans applying for settlement in the UK. There has been no change to the suitability criteria: those with convictions covered by Part 2, paragraphs 8 to 10b of Appendix Armed Forces will be refused.

The fee waiver policy already applies to non-UK veterans living outside the UK who apply for settlement in the UK more than two years after discharge where the requirements of Part 3, paragraph 11 of Appendix Armed Forces are met.
