Food: Labelling

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment her Department has made of the potential impact of calorie labelling on menus on people with (a) eating disorders and (b) forms of body dysmorphia, and what steps her Department took to limit the potential negative impacts of that policy on those groups.

Answer: In response to consultation feedback, we have exempted schools from the requirement to display calorie information and we included provision for businesses to provide a menu without calorie information at the request of the customer. We continue to evaluate the impact of the out of home calorie labelling Regulations, including on people living with eating disorders. We will publish a post-implementation review within five years of implementation, which will consider the implementation and effectiveness of the policy.
