Criminal Proceedings: Royal Commissions
- Question
-
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, with reference to the Answer of 29 March 2022 to Question 143691 on Criminal Proceedings: Royal Commissions, what recent assessment he has made of the potential merits of the establishment of a Royal Commission on the criminal justice system.
- Answer
-
We continue to prioritise recovery in the criminal justice system and it is right to do so in light of the disruption caused by the Criminal Bar Association’s recent action. Our focus is on delivering our priorities over the coming months including strengthening victims’ rights through the Victims’ Bill and overhauling the UK human rights framework through the Bill of Rights, which will safeguard the wider public interest, while restoring some common sense to our justice system.
We continue to keep issues in the wider criminal justice system under review.
