Written question asked by Alex Cunningham (Labour) on Wednesday, 25 May 2022, in the House of Commons. It was due for an answer on Monday, 6 June 2022 (named day). It was answered by Mims Davies (Conservative) on Monday, 6 June 2022 on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions.

Department for Work and Pensions: Tees Valley

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, whether her Department consulted with Stockon Borough Council on its decision to move the Department for Work and Pensions office in Stockton to Middlesbrough.

Answer

As part of the Department’s plans to reshape how, when and where the Department works (resulting in a smaller, greener and better estate); we plan to move colleagues and services from Stockton-on-Tees to Middlesbrough James Cook House which is approximately 5.2 miles away. The planned move is to an existing DWP building and as such, no consultation with Stockton Borough Council took place.
