Neighbourhood Policing: Devon

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what steps she is taking to ensure that community policing priorities in Devon towns are supported following the implementation of national and metropolitan policing models currently being considered.

Answer

Every neighbourhood, including those in Devon towns, has named and contactable officers dedicated to tackling crime and anti-social behaviour in their communities. The Government is committed to strong neighbourhood policing, and by the end of this Parliament, there will be 13,000 additional neighbourhood policing personnel.

The Police Reform White Paper, published on 26 January 2026, set out the Government’s commitment to introduce a new model for policing, so that it is fit for the modern world and we have the right policing in the right places. We will ensure police forces are equipped to make their local communities safer and implement a new national approach to policing that protects us all.

The Independent Review of Police Force Structures was launched on 17 March 2026 and will make recommendations on the number and configuration of police forces in England and Wales. Responsive local policing will be guaranteed through the creation of Local Policing Areas (LPAs), led by Local Policing Commanders, that are receptive to the needs and priorities of the local communities they serve. The Review will report its recommendations to the Home Secretary in the summer.
