Solar Power: New Businesses

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what recent support his Department has provided to startups in the solar sector.

Answer

The Government supports startups in the solar sector by creating a strong market framework and enabling innovation-led growth. This includes support through UK-wide innovation funding delivered by UK Research and Innovation and Innovate UK, open to businesses developing solar technologies.

More broadly, the Government is creating a supportive market environment through the Contracts for Difference scheme, fiscal incentives such as 0% VAT and tax reliefs, and reforms to planning and grid connections. The Solar Roadmap also sets out actions to strengthen supply chains and support innovation across the sector.
