Department for Transport: Statistics

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, whether the Department maintains a register of statistical publications considered to be at risk of delay; how many official statistical publications are classified as high risk; whether additional resources have been allocated to address those risks; and if she will publish that information.

Answer

In line with the Code of Practice for Statistics, the Department for Transport has robust procedures in place to lead the Production of Official Statistics under the direction and authority of the Head of Profession for Statistics.

Appropriate action is taken to ensure that all Official Statistics are released in a timely manner, to the required quality. There are occasions where unexpected factors impact the production and quality of the statistics and it is, therefore, necessary to make changes to pre-announced release dates as agreed with the Head of Profession for Statistics.

The Department utilises its statistics senior management group to ensure oversight of any risk to publications – across the volume and breath of our publications. Any risks are promptly communicated to the public. The DfT analytical community operates an agile model to ensure the relevant capacity and capability can be utilised to address the varying needs of any Official Statistics publication.
