Department for Work and Pensions: Public Appointments

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, pursuant to the answer of May 2026, to Question 1176, on DWP: Public Appointments, if he will name the four Direct Ministerial Appointments who made declarations of political activity and list the political activity that was declared.

Answer

Alan Milburn declared that he was a member of a political party (Labour).

Matthew Upton declared that he was a member of a political party (Labour) and worked at Labour Together.

Baroness Jeannie Drake declared that she was a member of a political party (Labour), had canvassed on behalf of a party or helped at elections and had undertaken other political activity, including contributions to the House of Lords Labour Group, which provides support to Labour Peers.

Professor Nick Pearce declared he was a member of a political party (Labour), had canvassed on behalf of a party or helped at elections and had undertaken other political activity, including his previous SpAd role during the Labour government 1997-2010.
