Road Traffic Offences: Speed Limits
- Question
-
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment her Department has made of the effectiveness of fixed penalties as opposed to means tested penalties as a deterrent for speeding offences and whether they have plans to consider larger or graduated penalties for higher earners.
- Answer
-
The Department keeps the motoring offences framework under review. Our consultation on proposed changes to penalties for motoring offences closed on 11 May 2026. Although it did not specifically seek views on income-related speeding penalties, respondents could raise wider matters for consideration. We are analysing the responses.
