State Retirement Pensions: Uprating
- Question
-
To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, whether his Department has conducted an impact assessment on changing the annual earnings link in the triple lock to average earnings over time in relation to (a) the gender pension gap and (b) levels of pensioner poverty.
- Answer
-
Topics including the gender pension gap and the wider impacts on the pensions system will be considered as part of the Second Pensions Commission's work.
Levels of pensioner poverty under the adjusted triple lock are projected to decline with relative pensioner poverty after housing costs estimated to fall from 14% in 2024/25 to 8% by 2049/50. However, the Government is not complacent on the issue of pensioner poverty. This is why we have asked the Pensions Commission to make recommendations on further support for lower-income pensioners in their final report.
