M25: Noise

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, how many noise important areas of the M25 there are within Surrey; and what the locations are.

Answer

The Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) is responsible for creating noise maps, and associated Noise Important Areas, as part of implementing the Environmental Noise (England) Regulations 2006. These road noise maps and the associated Noise Important Areas can be viewed online here: http://extrium.co.uk/noiseviewer.html.

There are 30 Noise Important Areas along the M25 within Surrey:

  • NIA 1295 – M25 section between Staines and junction 12

  • NIA 6262 – M25 section around Lyne Crossing Road, Chertsey

  • NIA 5885 – M25 section around Hardwick Lane, Chertsey

  • NIA 13841 – M25 section around Guildford Road, Chertsey

  • NIA 5887 – M25 section around Green Lane/Bittams Lane, Chertsey

  • NIA 1287 – M25 section between Church Road and Coombelands Road

  • NIA 1286 – M25 section around Woodham Lane, New Haw

  • NIA 1285 – M25 section around Gorselands Close, Byfleet

  • NIA 14887 – M25 section around Holly Bush Stables, West Byfleet
