A47: Dual Carriageways

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what costs have been incurred as a result of the cancellation and revocation of the A47 Wansford to Sutton dualling scheme, including costs relating to contract termination, legal advice, compensation and administrative activity.

Answer

National Highways will confirm the total spend on the A47 Wansford to Sutton dualling scheme up to the end of March 2026 in its Annual Report and Accounts which is due to be published in July 2026. In relation to the requested breakdown:

  1. Contract termination: there were no costs associated with contract termination as National Highways was not in contract with a delivery partner at the time of cancellation.

  1. Legal advice: National Highways legal costs since project cancellation are negligible.

  1. Compensation: there were no compensation costs incurred because of cancelling the scheme, however, existing lands transactions have continued and will be part of the scheme cost to be published in July 2026.

  1. Administrative activity: National Highways do not have a cost profile for National Highways’ staff activity for this scheme.
