To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the Written Answer by Earl Howe on 2 February (HL4599), given the recent closure of Nottingham University Trust's acute dermatology service, what steps they are taking to relieve increasing service pressure on dermatology in the long term.
- Answer
-
The commissioning and provision of National Health Services is a matter for the local NHS.
The NHS Trust Development Authority advises that since Monday 2 February Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has been unable to provide a comprehensive adult dermatology service. It no longer has sufficient consultant dermatologist capacity to sustain such a service.
The Trust has worked with commissioners to ensure a satisfactory service is available to local people from alternative providers.
Rushcliffe Clinical Commissioning Group has commissioned a review to assess how to meet the needs of the population in the future. It would not be appropriate for Ministers or the Department to intervene in this matter.
