Floods: Business

Question

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what is their estimate of the number of businesses of all kinds in England that are at significant risk of flooding.

Answer

The Environment Agency estimates the number of non-residential properties in England, in areas at high risk of flooding, to be:

  • 102,000 properties in areas at high risk of flooding from rivers and the sea

  • 85,000 properties in areas at high risk of flooding from surface water

High risk means there is a greater than a 3.3% chance of flooding in any given year. Non-residential also includes properties such as churches, public houses, schools and offices.
