Written question asked by Lord Blencathra (Conservative) on Wednesday, 10 January 2018, in the House of Lords. It was due for an answer on Wednesday, 24 January 2018. It was answered by Baroness Williams of Trafford (Conservative) on Wednesday, 24 January 2018 on behalf of the Home Office.

Leigh Day

Question

To ask Her Majesty's Government, further to the Written Answer by Baroness Williams of Trafford on 18 July 2017 (HL423), whether the Home Office will now refer Leigh Day to the National Crime Agency for investigation of any possible misconduct.

Answer

The National Crime Agency (NCA) is operationally independent of the Home Office. As set out in Section four of the Crime and Courts Act 2013, and the ‘Revised Framework Document for the NCA’, published in May 2015, the Director General of the Agency is responsible for all decisions about which operations to conduct and how they should be conducted. It is therefore not for the Home Office to refer matters for investigation.
