Xinjiang: Human Rights

Question

To ask Her Majesty's Government what consideration they have given (1) to introducing sanctions on businesses or individuals linked to human rights abuses in Xinjiang, and (2) to mirroring the sanctions imposed by the government of the United States on companies associated with the abuse of human rights in that region.

Answer

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office are carefully considering further designations under the Global Human Rights regime, introduced in July. We will keep all evidence and potential listings under close review. It is not appropriate to speculate on who may be designated in the future, as to do so could reduce their impact.
