Libya: Politics and Government

Question: To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of recent developments in Libya; and what assessment they have made of the implications of these developments on the formation of a government in that country.

Answer: Recent developments in Libya demonstrate the need for successful, free, fair and inclusive elections, to meet the aspirations of the Libyan people to have a say in who governs them. The UK fully supports the UN-facilitated, Libyan led and owned political process and is working with Libyan and international partners - including the UN Secretary-General's Special Advisor on Libya, Stephanie Williams, and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya - to pursue this priority to support Libya's sovereignty and national unity and to put the country on a path towards sustained peace, security and prosperity.
