Iraq: Genocide

Question

To ask Her Majesty's Government, following the publication of the Yazidi Justice Committee Report on State Responsibility and the Yazidi Genocide on 6 July, whether they have assessed whether genocide of the Yazidi has or is continuing to occur; if not, whether they plan (1) to take undertake such an assessment, and (2) to recognise ongoing those events as genocide.

Answer

We note the Yazidi Justice Committee's report on State Responsibility and the Yazidi Genocide. It is the long-standing policy of the British Government that any judgment as to whether genocide has occurred is a matter for a competent national or international court, rather than for governments or non-judicial bodies.
