To ask the Secretary of State for Health what proportion of prisoners entered each prison with an addiction to drugs in 2011-12.

Information is collected by the Department in respect of the total number of prisoners receiving clinical interventions for drug dependence in prisons in England and Wales and within each prison in 2010-11, the most recent year for which data are available. Data are not yet available for 2011-12.
In 2010-11, a total of 30,459 detoxification drug treatments were provided to male and female prisoners of all ages and a total of 30,650 extended prescribing maintenance treatments were provided. Data in respect of each prison have been placed in the Library.
