To ask the Secretary of State for Transport when she expects to launch a consultation on the proportion of wheelchair accessible vehicles per local fleet that must be met before a licensing authority can refuse to grant a licence for a wheelchair accessible vehicle for the purpose of controlling taxi numbers.

The Government has in place a rigorous approval system for considering the implications of any new Regulation which it introduces. We have been
considering the case for commencing section 161 of the Equality Act to which this question refers in the context of the review of taxi and private hire vehicle licensing being carried out by the Law Commission.
