To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent representations he has made to his counterparts in Mali and Burkina Faso to help dispel tensions between those two countries.

Building regional stability and good relations in the Sahel is central to our policy towards the region. Ministers and officials regularly raise this with regional contacts, including during the visit of the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. friend the Member for Richmond (Yorks) (Mr Hague) to Bamako on 4 March, and my visit to the African Union summit in January. Recent years have seen an improvement in relations between Mali and Burkina Faso, and Burkina Faso has made a substantial troop contribution to the African-led International Support Mission to Mali force which aims to help stabilise Mali.
