Sexuality: Discrimination
- Question
-
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what discussions he has had with his Commonwealth counterparts on amending the Commonwealth Charter to include opposition to discrimination on the basis of sexuality.
- Answer
-
The UK has not had any discussions on the amendment of the Commonwealth Charter. The Commonwealth Charter states:
"We are implacably opposed to all forms of discrimination, whether rooted in gender, race, colour, creed, political belief or other grounds".
It remains our view that the phrase "all forms of discrimination" on "other grounds" covers discrimination against the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community as well as any other form of discrimination.
