Written question asked by Lord Myners (Labour), in the House of Lords. It was answered by Lord Sassoon (Conservative) on Monday, 8 October 2012.

Banking: Fund Managers

Question

To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether they will negotiate for fund managers to be exempt from restrictions on pay proposed by the European Union. [HL2230]

Answer

Under the current UK remuneration framework, many fund managers are already in scope of the Financial Services Authority's remuneration code which implements the European Union's Capital Requirements Directive 3.

The aim in negotiations is always to ensure that any additional proposals are only implemented where they would enhance the existing framework. In addition, it is important to ensure that national regulators retain the discretion to apply the provisions proportionately based on an institution's size and significance.
