Question

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what discussions they have had, or intend to seek, with the director of BBC Scotland about the use of compromise agreements in relation to departing BBC employees and contractors.[HL6002]

Answer

There have been no discussions with the directors of the BBC in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland regarding compromise agreements in relation to departing BBC employees and contractors. Under the terms of the BBC’s charter and agreement, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the Government to intervene in the corporation’s day-to-day operations.
