Proceeding contribution from Lord Coaker (Labour) in the House of Lords on Monday, 13 April 2026. It occurred during Private notice question on Strait of Hormuz: Mine Clearance.
Strait of Hormuz: Mine Clearance
The truth of the matter is that we of course need more ships, and investment is going into that now to produce the ships that we need. We are currently trying to maximise the use of the capabilities we have available to us to ensure that we deal with the problems and challenges we faceānot only in the Middle East but across the world, as we recently saw in the North Sea and the High North. It is important, as we wait for these new ships to be delivered and the investment to go in, to ensure that we have the capabilities we need to deal with the threats we face.
