To ask His Majesty's Government what discussions they have had with the government of the United States regarding the reported leak of intelligence material by a 21 year old reservist.
To ask His Majesty's Government what discussions they have had with the government of the United States regarding the reported leak of intelligence material by a 21 year old reservist.
The Defence Secretary regularly speaks to the US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. They spoke about this issue on 12 April and met again during the Defence Secretary's pre-planned visit to Washington on 17 April. The UK commends the swift action taken by US law enforcement to investigate and respond to the unauthorised disclosure of classified documents, including the arrest and charging of a suspect. The US remains the UK's most important ally and partner and the depth of the UK's relationship with the US remains an absolutely essential pillar of our security.
To ask His Majesty's Government what plans they have to limit the sharing of British intelligence information with the United States following the reported leak of intelligence material by a 21 year old reservist.

To ask His Majesty's Government whether the RAF is solely responsible for training Royal Navy fast jet pilots; and what is their assessment of asking the US Marine Corps to help train Royal Navy pilots at times when RAF training may not be running as intended.
To ask His Majesty's Government whether the RAF is solely responsible for training Royal Navy fast jet pilots; and what is their assessment of asking the US Marine Corps to help train Royal Navy pilots at times when RAF training may not be running as intended.
The Royal Air Force (RAF) is not solely responsible for the training of Royal Navy (RN) Fast Jet (FJ) pilots. The UK Military Flying Training System (UKMFTS), contracted to Ascent, delivers aircrew training of elementary, basic and advanced flying training phases for all three Services, in order to prepare them for their arrival at their designated operational aircraft units.
The RN has maintained a limited programme to train FJ pilots with the United States Navy (not US Marine Corps) to sustain a cadre of maritime FJ pilots following the withdrawal of Joint Force Harrier.

Of the 26 F-35B Lightning aircraft currently based at RAF Marham, 13 are allocated to 207 Squadron, eight are allocated to 617 Squadron and five are undergoing maintenance. A further three are based in the USA with 17 Squadron.
To ask His Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the decision of the government of the United States to stop developing a sea-based nuclear launch capability, and of the impact of this on the UK’s defence policy.
To ask His Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the decision of the government of the United States to stop developing a sea-based nuclear launch capability, and of the impact of this on the UK’s defence policy.
Nuclear capability decisions remain sovereign decisions and so it would be inappropriate for the UK to comment on specifics. We are content that the US Nuclear Posture Review does not contain any negative impacts for UK deterrence or national security.
We welcome the US's continued commitment to the security of the NATO Alliance, and their actions to ensure that the Alliance's nuclear deterrent mission remains credible.
To ask Her Majesty's Government, further to the Written Answer by Baroness Goldie on 20 June (HL695), what representations they have made, if any, to the government of the United States regarding the (1) manufacture, and (2) delivery profile, of F-35 combat aircraft, given the changes to the orders made for...

We have informed the US led F-35 Joint Program Office (JPO) of our Tranche 2 purchase intention. However, we are subject to our internationally agreed manufacture and delivery schedules, and capacity limitations in the overall F-35 development programme with its many global customers.
To ask Her Majesty's Government what financial provision they are making for the financial year 2022–23 to give military assistance to the Baltic states; and how, within NATO, are (1) they, (2) the government of the USA, and (3) the government of Canada, allocating any additional responsibilities.

The UK enjoys close military relationships with the Baltic states. We work together both bilaterally and through various multilateral fora, including through NATO and the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF). The UK trains and exercises routinely across the Baltic sea region. We are also the framework nation for the enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battlegroup in Estonia.
The UK does not disclose live operational financial information. We discuss European Defence and security regularly with NATO Allies including the US and Canada, but cannot comment on how they allocate responsibilities within NATO. SACEUR has not requested any further NATO support or reinforcement to the region, but the UK stands ready to respond to future requests from NATO.
To ask Her Majesty's Government what representations they have made to the governments of (1) Poland, and (2) the United States of America, to facilitate the transfer of MiG-25s to Ukraine.
To ask Her Majesty's Government what representations they have made to the governments of (1) Poland, and (2) the United States of America, to facilitate the transfer of MiG-25s to Ukraine.
The UK has not been approached formally by Ukraine to provide or backfill aircraft and therefore has made no representations to the governments of Poland, and the United States of America, to facilitate the transfer of MiG-25s to Ukraine.
However, the MOD is currently discussing all aspects of support with the Government of Ukraine. We are committed to supporting Ukraine to defend itself against Russia's illegal and unjustified aggression, and to helping our allies to do the same. Decisions on what defensive support to provide rests with individual governments.
To ask Her Majesty's Government what plans they have, if any, to request access to the classified version of the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Assessment, dated 25 June 2021, from the Office of the Direction of National Intelligence in the United States of America.
To ask Her Majesty's Government what plans they have, if any, to request access to the classified version of the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Assessment, dated 25 June 2021, from the Office of the Direction of National Intelligence in the United States of America.
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) takes all credible threats to UK airspace very seriously and we work with many allies to ensure its integrity. It is not MOD policy to comment on details of classified information, passed to Her Majesty's Government by an ally.

We are unaware of a US Submarine Advisory Committee and therefore cannot offer further information in response.
To ask Her Majesty's Government what US satellite networks UK Reaper drones use.
To ask Her Majesty's Government what US satellite networks UK Reaper drones use.
In general, the RAF use a combination of Ku-band satellite links together with line of sight Radio Frequency communications and telephone networks for UK Reaper. These are used across the UK, US and NATO military systems, dependent on requirement, the area of operations and the specific task.
However, I am withholding further details about specific satellite networks as they would likely prejudice the capability, effectiveness or security of the Armed Forces.

Her Majesty's Government does not have a role in the United States' Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force. Whilst the Ministry of Defence is aware of the planned report, it has not contributed to it and would be unable to provide any comments on the report ahead of its official release by the US Government.
To ask Her Majesty's Government what plans they have to enact legislation similar to the Gambling Addiction Prevention Act 2019 in the United States, which legally requires the development and implementation of policies and programmes to prevent and treat gambling disorders among members of the armed forces and their dependants.
To ask Her Majesty's Government what plans they have to enact legislation similar to the Gambling Addiction Prevention Act 2019 in the United States, which legally requires the development and implementation of policies and programmes to prevent and treat gambling disorders among members of the armed forces and their dependants.
New recruits to the Armed Forces receive comprehensive briefing on the importance of financial security and the values and standards expected of them, during which the issue of gambling is raised. They are also signposted to the full range of support and assistance available for welfare matters, including gambling. New officers are trained how to identify and support those under their command who are experiencing financial difficulties, including those caused by gambling.
There are no plans to enact legislation similar to that of the United States' Gambling Addiction Prevention Act 2019. Polices and initiatives already in operation by the Department and Armed Forces closely mirror the requirements and obligations stipulated by said Act and have similar effect.

The 2018 Combat Air Strategy confirmed the UK's commitment to a strong and sustainable Combat Air Sector. The Strategy reinforced the importance of effective international partnering in delivering next generation combat air and building on mutual strengths. The Strategy also confirmed that we will seek to maximise interoperability, especially with the United States, wider NATO, European and global allies and partners. The Department will shortly submit the future combat air outline business case, which will down-select the acquisition route.

Her Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the need for a military-to-military channel of communication between the United States of America and Iran, particularly in relation to naval incidents in the Persian Gulf.
The UK continues to seek a de-escalation of tensions in the Gulf, and urges restraint from all parties. Specific channels of communication are a matter for the US and Iran.

We are aware of an interaction between US and Iranian vessels in the international waters of the northern Gulf on 15 April. Reports of IRGC harassment are concerning. It is important that all mariners uphold the highest standards of conduct at sea, and that states are able to safely undertake legitimate naval activity in International Waters. We are regularly in contact with US and some Iranian counterparts to discuss bilateral issues and to urge de-escalation on all sides.
