Mr. Cohen: To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department if he will introduce a statutory code of practice in
respect of the provisions in the Audit Commission Bill [Lords] which permit the Commission to datamatch personal data in the name of
economy, effectiveness and efficiency; and if he will make a statement. [29114]
Mr. Hoon: The Audit Commission Bill is a Consolidation Bill, which does no more than restate the existing law in clearer form. It is
not possible to amend the Bill by adding a provision for a code of practice.
