Following the devastating flooding in Libya the Ministry of Defence has deployed personnel forward to assist the British Embassy Tripoli and assess what further support we might provide. We are positioning ourselves to support the wider humanitarian activity.

During her visit to Tripoli on 28 September, HMS Albion's crew met with senior Libyan political and military officials, including hosting an Official Reception which was attended by guests including Deputy Chair of the Presidential Council Musa Al-Koni and Foreign Minister Dr. Najla Mangoush.

Violent extremism in Libya remains a concern and the issue is kept under review by the Ministry of Defence. We work closely with the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC). JTAC is the UK's independent centre for analysis and assessment of terrorism, it keeps the UK national threat level under constant review. This is a systematic, comprehensive, and rigorous process, based on the very latest intelligence and analysis of internal and external factors which drive the threat.

As stated in my previous response to the hon. Member's Question 19000, the Ministry of Defence is aware of the historic Libyan links of the two named individuals (Salman Abedi and Hashem Abedi).

The Ministry of Defence is aware of the historic Libyan links of the three named individuals (Salman Abedi, Khairi Saadallah and Rachid Redouane). However, even from this distance in time, disclosure of our understanding of the various Libyan groups that these individuals were associated with, could undermine future intelligence analysis and operations being conducted in support of national security.
