Two rural payments claimants in Derbyshire breached the cross compliance Good Agricultural and Environmental Condition (GAEC) 7b Public Rights of Way rules in the last three scheme years. These were found in 2019. One received a reduction to payments, the other received a warning letter. In both cases, a right of way had been wilfully obstructed.

It is not possible to proportion the amount of National Trail funding allocated to urban areas. Funding is allocated to National Trail Partnerships who spend their allocation in accordance with the priorities identified for individual trails to ensure the trail is maintained to national trail standards. Trails in urban areas are generally hard surfaces therefore tend to require less funding than in rural areas.

Increasing access into the countryside is currently supported by existing schemes and other mechanisms already in place. We are still considering our approach to increasing and maintaining access to the countryside in our future schemes, including our environmental land management schemes. This includes the creation of new paths to improve public access to the countryside.
