That this House expresses its deep dissatisfaction that the residential Employment Rehabilitation Centre at Ingol, Preston, is to be closed by the Department of Employment, despite having been purpose-built only 12 years ago and being able to accommodate 100 disabled people on courses which proved their solid worth and enabled many disabled people to take their places alongside able-bodied workers and make an economic contribution to the community to their and our great benefit; notes that this will mean that there is no such residential provision for people with disabilities in the whole of the United Kingdom; is aware that at Ingol there was an effective combination of health welfare, and training provision; notes also that despite a strong local campaign the Government has remained adamant and has run down the centre so that excellent residential and workshop space is lying unused; and calls on the Government to drawback from the final destruction of this splendid asset.
