That this House supports the United Nations in proclaiming 2000 as the International Year for the Culture of Peace and the following decade the International Decade for the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World; and urges Her Majesty's Government to respond to the invitation from the Secretary General of the United Nations to ensure that the practice of peace and non-violence is taught at all levels in society, especially educational institutions, and education policy is developed into a culture of peace incorporating thought and social interaction rooted in the values, attitudes and behaviour that reject violence in all its forms and encourage non-violence, tolerance, peace and understanding among all peoples in this new millennium.
