The information requested falls within the responsibility of the National Statistician who has been asked to reply.Letter from Colin Mowl to Mr. Andrew Rosindell, dated 30 June 2005:"The National Statistician has been asked to reply to your question regarding estimates for the number of UK subjects who have emigrated to live in Commonwealth countries since 2001. I am replying in his absence. (8536)""The table below shows annual estimates for the number of British citizens migrating to Commonwealth countries between 2001 and 2003. The definition of a migrant used in the calculation of these estimates is a person who changes their country of usual residence for a period of at least a year. Therefore, some of the people estimated to have migrated to the Commonwealth over this period may have subsequently returned to the UK."
"The annual reference volume ““Series MN, International Migration”” includes a table (Table 3.1) showing migration estimates by country of last or next residence for British citizens (and other groups of citizens). The most recent annual reference volume is ““Series MN No. 30, International Migration, 2003””. (4182)""Estimates of UK citizens emigrating from the UK from 1991 to 2003 are shown in the attached table. The figures are derived from the most comprehensive estimate of migration produced by the Office for National Statistics, Total International Migration (TIM), which is based on a number of sources.""TIM estimates using the current methodology are only available from 1991 onwards. The latest estimates, for 2003, were published in the annual reference volume International Migration, Series MN no. 30, on the National Statistics website at the link below on 28th April 2005. As National Statistician, I have been asked to reply to your recent Parliamentary Question regarding the number of people emigrating
from the United Kingdom since 1990, and the percentage of these who were aged between 18 and 30. (220670)
Estimates of emigration from the UK are shown in the attached table. The figures are based on the most comprehensive estimate of
migration produced by the Office for National Statistics, Total International Migration (TIM).
TIM estimates are based on data from a number of sources. Some of the source data are grouped into the following broad age groups:
under 15; 15-24; 25-44; 45-59/64; and 60/65 and over. As a result, we are only able to provide TIM estimates of emigration for the
aforementioned age groups. Furthermore, TIM estimates produced using the current methodology are only available from 1991 onwards.
