From the information collected by the Department for Transport it is not possible to identify passenger falls on buses. However, it is possible to identify those passengers reported by police as injured on a bus/coach that was in motion and did not impact with any object, vehicle or pedestrian. This information is given in the following table:

Available information relates to crimes recorded by the police in which firearms (excluding air weapons) were reported to have been used, resulting in fatal and non-fatal injury in England and Wales, England, the North East region and Cleveland police force area. Constituency level data are not collected centrally. Data for the period 1997-98 up to and including 2007-08 are given in the following table. Figures for 2008-09, including a breakdown by police force area, will be published on 21 January 2010.Firearms are taken to be involved in a crime if they are fired, used as a blunt instrument or used as a threat.

We are not aware of any instances of the Government of Iraq paying compensation. The Ministry of Defence administers the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme, which provides benefits for illness, injury or death sustained by troops during the course of their duties on or after 6 April 2005. This scheme has replaced the War Pensions Scheme and Armed Forces Pension Scheme's 75 attributable benefits. Any civilians injured in the course of their employment in Iraq or the next of kin of those who have been killed should discuss the issue of compensation with their employer.

Information has been provided for the North East Strategic Health Authority (SHA), the Middlesbrough Primary Care Trust (PCT) and the Redcar and Cleveland PCT. As part of the national health service organisation restructure in July 2006-07, Langbaurgh PCT merged with part of Middlesbrough PCT to form Redcar and Cleveland PCT.Information has been provided on the number of finished admission episodes for two clinical codes. Code x99 covers assault by a sharp object, and code w26 covers accidental contact knife, sword or dagger. Data for both these clinical codes have been provided for the years 1996-97 to 2008-09. The data that are set out in the following table include all activity in NHS hospitals in England and activity performed in the independent sector in England commissioned by the NHS in England.

A table providing information on the number of finished admission episodes where the external cause code related to assaults by gunshot or sharp object has been placed in the Library. This excludes assault by gunshot and sharp object which are classified as accidents, intentional self-harm and for which the intent is undetermined. Reference should be made to the footnotes and the clinical coding when interpreting the data.

The Ministry of Defence publishes the numbers of personnel categorised as Very Seriously Injured and Seriously Injured as a result of Operations Telic and Herrick on its website"www.mod.uk"The figures are updated fortnightly. In addition, we are committed to publishing on a quarterly basis the numbers of service personnel who have suffered limb amputations as a result of injuries sustained while on operational deployment. However, in order both to protect the identities of small numbers of patients and to maintain operational security for the effectiveness of our protective countermeasures, we do not routinely publish VSI and SI sub-classified by other types of physical injury.

This information is not held in the format requested and therefore it could be provided only at disproportionate cost. However, following the formation of the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency (SPVA) in April 2007 the Veterans Welfare Service has proactively provided support to injured personnel as they leave the service and thereafter. In addition the welfare organisations within the Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy also provide welfare support to injured personnel while they are still in service. The Veterans Welfare Service also provides support to the dependants of those who have died in service. The level of welfare support offered to the families of Service Personnel killed or injured is the same regardless of the cause or where it occurs. I have provided in the following tables data the SPVA Welfare Support Services hold on the support they have given in these circumstances.
