To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps (a) she, (b) her Department and (c) the police are taking to mark National Police Memorial Day on 30 September 2012.

I am sure the whole House would agree that we should honour those police officers who lose their lives while doing their duty for their country. There is a police memorial at the national arboretum, which I visited this year for the Care Of Police Survivors service. There is also an annual national police memorial day service, which Ministers attend and which will take place on 30 September, and there are police bravery awards. It is right that we do a great deal to recognise police bravery, and I am happy to discuss this with my hon. Friend.

I recently visited the United States police hall of fame in Florida, which educates people and celebrates the work of the US police force, as well as provides a memorial to US police officers who have died in service. Building on the fantastic work of Michael Winner, does the Minister agree that having a UK police hall of fame would be very appropriate? Will the Home Office support setting one up?
