We continue to support a peaceful solution to the Kurdish issue. We urge Turkey to take full advantage of the opportunities created by the process of constitutional reform. We have underlined our support for Turkey’s efforts to
defeat the PKK (the Kurdistan Workers’ Party) and applaud recent steps taken by the government to end the violence, including the agreement on a “roadmap” with the main opposition party. We also welcome the
Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party’s statement on 19 June calling on the PKK to lay down its arms, and Prime Minister Erdogan’s meeting on I July with independent Kurdish MP Leyla Zana.
