Following the appointment of new members in November 2012, the Committee on Radioactive Waste Management (CoRWM) has taken the opportunity to review its terms of reference, in consultation with its sponsors (the Department of Energy and Climate Change and the devolved Administrations). This review, now nearing completion, considered whether plenary meetings open to the public should remain a feature of the Committee's stakeholder engagement activities. CoRWM concluded and sponsors agreed that given the very low attendance by members of the public in recent years, such meetings no longer offered value for money.
CoRWM remains committed to working in an open, transparent and consultative way. In order to inform stakeholders of its work, the Committee will continue to make use of its website and regular e-bulletins and will publish notes of all plenary meetings, bi-lateral meetings and open plenary papers.
