Of these 14 are in receipt of Jobseeker's Allowance and 16 are currently in work. Our records of former Remploy disabled employees currently in work only show individuals who are in employment of 16 hours or more and does not indicate the type of employment, or whether it is permanent, fixed term, temporary or voluntary.

For all disabled former Remploy workers made redundant as a result of factory closures, the Government put in place the £8 million guaranteed People Help and Support Package (PHSP). The support package provides help to each affected disabled former employee for up to 18 months from the date they left Remploy.

As part of this support package the Department also asked all disabled former employees made redundant from Remploy to give permission to be tracked, and can only monitor the progress and outcomes of those individuals that have given permission.

Lend Lease won a competition for the Design and Construction of the New Prison at Wrexham, North Wales. The Design and Construction arrangements under the Partnering Agreement with Lend Lease are divided into three separate contracts. The first contract is for the design development of the prison, the second is for pre-commencement enabling works and the third contract is for the construction of the prison. To date the first two of these contracts have been entered into and the aim is to sign the construction contract in January 2015. The forms of contract used do not include 'penalties' for early termination of the contractor's employment, however, they do require the MoJ to pay the total amount properly due to the constructor for the value of all materials, goods, equipment and any other constructor’s reasonable costs incurred prior to the cancellation of the contract, including the costs of properly protecting and securing the site following the notice of termination. The cost of early termination of any of these contracts is therefore dependant upon the timing of the issue of a termination notice.

Whilst North Wales Police consulted on plans for their estate, including their property in Wrexham, in 2011, there has been no consultation between Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunal Service and other parties on the question of custody facilities at Wrexham Magistrates’ Court.

Wrexham Magistrates’ Court has access to cells at Wrexham Police Station until late 2016 at the very least. HM Courts and Tribunals Service will make an assessment of all available options for custodial cases at Wrexham Magistrates’ Court thereafter.

When the Secretary of State is visiting a region, if his diary allows, he also likes to visit local DWP staff.

No detailed discussions have taken place between HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) or the Department with North Wales police with regards to future cell provision at Wrexham magistrates court. HMCTS is considering its options. Further discussions will take place once preferred options have been identified.

Any decision for new arrangements for dealing with custody cases at Wrexham magistrates court will be guided by the principles of access to justice and best value for the taxpayer.

HM Courts and Tribunals Service has no current plans to cease criminal work at Wrexham magistrate’s court.

The amount of corporation tax liable for payment by businesses with a registered address in the Wrexham parliamentary constituency for accounting periods ending in financial year 2011-12 was £15 million. This is the latest year for which figures are available.

Figures on the amount of tax paid, broken down by company size, are not readily available and could be provided only at disproportionate cost. HMRC does hold information on corporation tax liability by the rates at which corporation tax is charged on companies’ chargeable profits. However, we are unable to disclose the proportionate breakdowns for Wrexham, as this would be a breach to HMRC’s statistical disclosure control policy to protect taxpayer confidentiality.

It is estimated that 3,000 individuals in the Wrexham constituency were higher rate taxpayers where the higher rate of income tax was their highest marginal rate for 2011-12.

Reliable estimates for individuals with total income over £1 million in the Wrexham constituency are not available due to small sample sizes.

Estimates are based on Survey of Personal Incomes (SPI) data for 2011-12.

The Department has spent c. £505,000 on the preliminary work associated with the building of a new prison in Wrexham. This is a responsible and proportionate amount of preparation for a £250 million project, and includes the cost of the design, surveys, preparation and planning, all of which are essential requirements for a project of this size. Internal costs, such as staff time associated solely with the building of the new prison at Wrexham, are not held separately and could, therefore, be provided only at disproportionate cost.

We need a fit for purpose, modern prison estate that provides affordable, modern prison accommodation in the right places to deliver our ambition of reducing

reoffending. That is why we are replacing older prisons across the estate with newer, more efficient, accommodation at a much lower cost.

This new prison will be a huge boost for the regional economy, with the creation of around 1,000 jobs and an estimated £23 million per year for the area. We will also hold prisoners close to their homes, which we know helps prevent reoffending.
