To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what assessment his Department made on potential merits of including sailing on the national curriculum for Physical Education.
The national curriculum sets out the aspects of physical education that should be taught to pupils. It does not stipulate that particular sports should be taught.
The department published subject content for reformed physical education GCSE, AS and A levels in England in January 2015. Both sets of subject content include a list of activities in which students can be assessed. On 24 October 2018, the department launched a review inviting proposals to add activities to the list. This review can be accessed at: https://consult.education.gov.uk/gcse-and-alevel-reform/review-of-gcse-as-and-a-level-physical-education-a/.
The deadline for responses is 20 December 2018.

Since January 2016, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency has recorded data taken from Coroners’ Reports that are in the public domain about boating accidents involving a fatality and where the Coroner has concluded that alcohol was a factor.
Figures held by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency are as per table below

The Department for Transport does not hold any information which is not already in the public domain on marine incidents involving alcohol and recreational boaters.
The Department does record data relating to the number of incidents involving a fatality where alcohol was believed to be a factor.

UK Sport do not allocate any funding that is dependent on participation levels. The primary role of UK Sport is to strategically invest National Lottery and Exchequer income to maximise the performance of UK athletes in the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the global events which precede them. To ask the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union how the Government plans to ensure that UK citizens who are Royal Yachting Association accredited instructors can continue to work on a seasonal basis in EU member states for such purposes after the UK leaves the EU.
The Government has been clear that we will seek to agree an implementation period beyond March 2019 of around two years.
During the implementation period people will be able to come to live, study and work in the UK as they do now. This would also be the case for UK nationals travelling or working in the EU during this period, including accredited yachting instructors.
Royal Yachting Association certificates and qualifications apply to people working and sailing on British flagged boats. Royal Yachting Association (RYA) qualifications are not covered by the Mutual Recognition of Professional Qualifications (MRPQ) Directive. Holders of these certificates should check the certification requirements of the local Port State Control Administration prior to entering their jurisdiction.
