To ask the Secretary of State for International Trade, what recent steps her Department has taken to help increase the volume of trade between the UK and Kosovo.
Bilateral trade with Albania and Kosovo was worth £55 million and £15 million respectively in 2020. The Department for International Trade and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office have worked closely with Albania and Kosovo. We have negotiated and brought into effect comprehensive Partnership, Trade and Cooperation Agreements with both Albania and Kosovo.
I am interested to hear the Minister’s comments, because the rollover agreement that the Government reached with Kosovo last year removed the requirement in the corresponding EU agreement for Kosovo to improve its laws on labour, health, safety at work and equal opportunities for women and men, for persons with disabilities and for persons belonging to minority groups. Can the Minister explain why?

As the Secretary of State and other Ministers have made very clear, what we do in this country remains in domestic law, and our trade deals do not change the fact that we have world-beating standards of labour protection. Indeed, this Government have done great work to combat modern slavery, introduce a national living wage and ban exclusive zero-hours contracts.

To ask Her Majesty's Government what is their assessment of the prospects for UK trade with (1) Kosovo, and (2) Georgia; and what initiatives they have taken in those countries in the last financial year, especially in respect of small and medium-size enterprises.

A UK/US Kosovo Trade and Investment Forum was held in London on November 3rd 2016 and trade cooperation has steadily grown in line with Kosovo’s economy. We look forward to increasing cooperation with the newly formed government, and hope to rearrange the postponed trade mission to Kosovo as a follow-up to the Forum.
In September 2017 a Trade Envoy to Georgia was appointed. In October the UK-Georgia ‘Wardrop Dialogue’ was held in London, attended by a Georgian Ministerial delegation, where the development of trade relations was discussed. My Rt hon Friend the Minister of State for Trade Policy (Greg Hands) met the Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia as part of this.
